Tuesday Tea: What's your go-to road trip snack or roadside restaurant stop?
Junk food for the win.
Trains are our favorite way to travel, but there’s no denying that a road trip can be a lot of fun. The open road, the best songs blasting on the stereo, shoes off, and snacks in hand.
Salty, sweet — a little bit of both — and definitely an enormous cup filled with ice and a cold drink.
Dave says…
To get salty in the U.S., I like Cheetos — but I think they taste different in Europe, though… a bit sweeter. So here, probably Salt & Vinegar Pringles. On the European candy side, I like the Ritter Sport bars, particularly Butter Biscuit, Alpine Milk Chocolate, and Cocoa Mousse. In the States, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups!
Mel says…
Though it’s a very close race, the original Fritos are my first choice for a salty snack. But they can be hard to find in Europe, so tied for second place are Nacho Cheese Doritos and Baked Lay’s. I’m also very partial to a sandwich from the café chain Paul: the French salami with butter, mustard, and pickles on a baguette. On the sugary side: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and/or Miňonky, a Slovak cookie-candy thing that’s wafer cookies with creamy filling in between the layers, coated in chocolate.
If I'm roadtripping from MN to visit family at home in WI, we stop for FRESH cheese curds!
My family would road trip from Pennsylvania to South Carolina, and we’d always stop at Waffle House once we’d get far enough south. It was always such a treat since we don’t have them where we live. After our delicious breakfast-at-any-time-of-day, I’d get a sweet tea refill to go to have for the rest of the drive.
