One of my favorite bookshops I loved to frequent was when my wife and I lived in Steamboat Springs, Colorado called 'Off the Beaten Path' and it's a little bookstore with a coffee shop. The loft was the used books section and had a few tables and stools where I'd sit for a couple hours on my off days doctoring my coffee and reading or writing during the winter. We've got some great bookstores where we live now, but something about a tiny, cramped bookstore with a coffeeshop is one of the best places to be on earth.

Strong agree! I feel like Instagram really loves open, airy bookshops — and they are pretty — but I always feel like a darker, smaller shop with mismatched tables and a little coffee counter is far more likely to offer up something magical like a book with a cool inscription or a funky copy of Jane Eyre. —Mel
