Decidedly chillier weather has arrived here in Prague. Although the gray days are slightly brighter and are marching toward getting longer, we’re still firmly in comfort food-blanket-books-cat mode.
Over the holidays, we discovered that our favorite grocery store has a remarkably delicious French salted butter that’s packaged in a cute little dome. We’ve been looking for excuses to eat it in small doses: on baked potatoes, on popcorn, on Saturday morning gluten-free toast.
I’ve also cracked the code on how to make same-day marinara sauce that tastes like I simmered it for days and a lentil soup that’s good in its original form and with the addition of sliced hot dogs. The latter is inspired by a soup made by the polévkárna (soup café) around the corner from our flat; apparently it’s German (?).
My wife makes an amazing homemade chicken noodle soup that I love. I am the master of making chili (actually making it today) from a recipe I have been perfecting for over 20 years. Those are our two go-to cold weather meals.
But Mel, please don't leave us hanging on the marinara sauce...! 👀
