Hello, friends! Mel, here…
I’ve been singing Lady Gaga’s new song ‘Abracadabra’ in my head since it hit the internet last month. The dance in the video was instantly iconic, and/but have you seen the new video featuring fans? Mastercard brought together 32 Gaga fans to recreate the original, and it’s so joyous:
I’m not much of a dancer, skill-wise, but I do enjoy doing the ‘80s dance to ‘Footloose’ and stomping around angrily to Social Distortion’s ‘Don’t Drag Me Down’ (which is its own kind of feel-good experience).
At the completely opposite end of the spectrum is ‘The One Song’ by Theo Dore. I first heard it during a kundalini yoga class circa 2011. The lyrics are so overly earnest and corny, it makes me laugh. An example:
we don’t believe in scarcity
there’s more than enough for you and me
just like the air we breathe…
in
and breathe out those stale emotions
that just need some good old fashioned compostin’
And the chorus:
The One Song
some call it the Uni-verse
we’re all singin’ The One Song
we’re all singin’ the You and I Verse
I mean, holy hokey, smokey. And yet. By the end of the six minutes, I’m singing along and feeling like, Yeah, we are the Uni-verse. Pro tip: It’s an excellent accompaniment to stretching or simply lying on the floor.
I’ve googled the artist Theo Dore (!) many times and cannot find anything about him, the song, or the album from which it was theoretically born (Love is ForGiving — our pal Theo really loved a Significant Capital Letter). He’s disappeared from the internet, so I don’t think he’d mind me sharing the song here. Treat yourself to this lovely, corny, silly, hopeful song.
Important Update: Someone let me know in the comments that Theo Dore is now Theo Grace! This is excellent news because if you also fall in love with ‘The One Song,’ you can buy it for $1 on Bandcamp and support the artist. How great is that?!
Spill the tea: What's your go-to feel-good song?
Share in the comments, and I’ll turn them into a Spotify playlist!
No matter the mood I’m in, if “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire comes on, I’m at least bopping my head along if not dancing and singing.
