A friend of mine told me a story about this song. He (white male in his 60s) was in CVS and the song was playing on the PA. He was nodding his head along to the music. Around one corner came a young African American man, nodding his head along to the music. Then around the other corner came an aging biker dude, nodding his head along to the music. EW&F is universal!
I grew up watching my parents dance in the kitchen to that song at least once a week. It is my childhood theme song. Just thinking about it makes me miss my dad so much!
Today we took our two grandsons to lunch. The restaurant was playing Build Me A Buttercup. Without any prompting, my four year old grandson said, "Grandma, I love this song." I guess this song will endure for another generation.
Tieduprightnow- Parcels (when my son was two we'd have music playing on YouTube while we played and he always called that video the butt song and it made me adore it so much)
Your Song- Elton John
Over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (goodness I hope I spelled that right)
Oh you just reminded me of one year in university residence I believe 1983. My floor mate Jeff would come back every day after class and moonwalk in the corridor to True by Spandau Ballet.
Whoa! I almost included that one in my list. That used to be my 'get ready for work' and 'get ready to go out' song because it made me feel so awesome. —Mel
Mel, you're killing me. No way can I pick just one. I cannot list fewer than 5. Hearing any of these will make me run to the nearest dance floor. Or you know, anywhere big enough for me to dance.
Also, I SO strongly associate Groove Is In the Heart with a very specific time in San Francisco when we loved our jobs, had a fun group of friends/co-workers, and all wore lots of glitter, feather boas, and candy-colored wigs as often as possible. So fun!
"Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi! Never gets old hearing the Notre Dame student band play it with the students singing it at football games, especially when Jon Bon Jovi is at the game. And then there is "Simply the Best" by Tina Turner....legend. Mel and Dave - can we modify our UK playlist based on this post? :) So many great songs shared.
As far as mine go, the entire Songs in the Key of Life album is go-to feel good and A Little Bit Alexis from Schitt’s Creek. Mel—you are SO RIGHT about Lady Gaga’s new album. I’m OBSESSED right now and a little bit in love with pop music again 💃🎶🥂
Not a JT fan by any stretch, but I find it impossible to be in a bad mood when I hear “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” At least for those four minutes anyway.
Anything by Jason Mraz but especially "Have it All" The lyrics are so fun and upbeat.. May you have auspiciousness and causes of success... May you have the confidence to always do your best... May it take no effort in your being generous 💕
I love, Love, LOVE this Tuesday Tea! Agree with every single one of the songs already here (and I also love that some of them are new to me, so I get to expand my "happy" playlist!)
A few that jumped out at me as soon as I saw the question:
-Walkin' on Sunshine, Katrina & the Waves
-I Gotta Feeling, The Black Eyed Peas
-The Long Way Around, The (formerly "Dixie") Chicks
-Learn to Fly, Foo Fighters
-Life to Fix, The Record Company (This last one isn't super happy, but more about getting your sh*t together However, it's got such a catchy bass line & drum beat that you can't help bouncing along . . . and it's the perfect song to get you out of a funk!) NOTE: Mel, I haven't tried this one while laying on the floor, but it just might work for one of those personal time-outs!
Strong agree! And as much as I love the Foo Fighters, my favorite performance of this song is from the Rockin' 1000 . . . the 1000 people from Italy who performed it as a request to get the band to play a concert there. Impossible not to get hepped up watching it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JozAmXo2bDE
Amazing how this first performance started a movement!
No matter the mood I’m in, if “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire comes on, I’m at least bopping my head along if not dancing and singing.
Dave and I saw them in concert way, way back in the day. When they sang, "Do you remembah..." everyone went crazy. Such a feel-good experience.
Ahhh jealous!!
Haha saw them forever ago too@
Yes. Also I love this parrot so much: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/00SiNPJr56M
Hysterical! And now I’m extra glad I don’t have a bird!
omggg I love this so much

This is mine too!
This is mine too! It’s the first thing that came to my head when I read today’s question! Never fails to put me in a good mood.
But also have to mention my all time favorite song: I Melt With You by Modern English. The first time I heard it, it stopped me in my tracks.
Ba-di-ya!!!
Ooh good pick.
Build Me Up Buttercup by the Foundations--so FUN to sing and belt it out!
Why do you build me up (Build me up)
Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down? (Let me down)
And mess me around
And then, worst of all (Worst of all)
You never call, baby
When you say you will (Say you will)
But I love you still
I need you (I need you)
More than anyone, darling
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (Build me up)
Buttercup, don't break my heart
I LOVE that song and it made me happy just thinking of it. Thanks for sharing. I’ll chime in with Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.
YES! Sweet Caroline, [duhn duhn duhn], good times never seemed so good...
"So Good! So Good! So Good! So Good!" love it!
I grew up watching my parents dance in the kitchen to that song at least once a week. It is my childhood theme song. Just thinking about it makes me miss my dad so much!
My younger daughter's middle name is Caroline because I have such a happy memory of my Auntie Jeannie singing it when I was a little girl :)
Love that so much!
What a perfectly lovely memory!
Today we took our two grandsons to lunch. The restaurant was playing Build Me A Buttercup. Without any prompting, my four year old grandson said, "Grandma, I love this song." I guess this song will endure for another generation.

Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine. Perks me up and brings good vibes and memories.
Oh, yeah. Good one!
I have to sing that song at the top of my lungs when I hear it!!! So I only play it when no one else is around. 😆
It's on our breakfast play list, so there's a lot of me wailing along while I make eggs.
I think it would be a son not to sing it loud! 😂
Ugh! Sin not son 🤦♀️ I wish you could edit your responses
I love this song!
Lately it’s been the Golden Girls theme song! It’s constantly stuck in my head, and I sing it to myself all the time 😆
Love it!
It's sooooo good!
"Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order (obviously)
and "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk - reminds me of blasting it out the window as we headed for the beach
When I was in college, I would come home from class and dance in my room every day to Bizarre Love Triangle!
Oh you just reminded me of one year in university residence I believe 1983. My floor mate Jeff would come back every day after class and moonwalk in the corridor to True by Spandau Ballet.
Get Lucky is definitely up there!
Yes, yes, yes to Bizarre Love Triangle! It is/was the best club dance song!
Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
A Little Respect - Erasure

There are no rules in feel-good song land. Five or 5 million is fully approved.

All these songs are SO GOOD. I am going to create a playlist of them all!
And speaking of, my bestie in the UK shared her pick-me-up-at-work playlist with me

OMG. A Little Bit Alexis! I have that on my gym playlist!
I am a Gaga fan, as well. Telephone? Love it. Born This Way? Amazing. Abracadabra is also super catchy!
Not a JT fan by any stretch, but I find it impossible to be in a bad mood when I hear “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” At least for those four minutes anyway.
Agree. He's pretty ew, but that is a super fun song. —Mel
I love love love Valarie by Steve Winwood and This Afternoon by Nickelback.
How could i forget Start Me Up by the Stones!!!! One of my favorite songs on my treadmill playlist.
Oh I love that song, too!!!
