When I worked in Youth Services at my local library, I dressed as Madeleine, Coraline, and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. The Coraline costume was definitely my favorite!
Years ago, while waiting in line for a Harry Potter ride at Universal, my family paired up all of our family members with their best Harry Potter character match. I got Professor Trelawney. :) She'd be a really fun Halloween costume!
The Nurse from The Devil of Nanking by Mo Hayder. I don't think I can pull it off, because if I remember she is 6 feet tall, but that character haunts my nightmares. Terrifying. Perfect scary Halloween costume idea. That whole book just sets your teeth on edge. I need to read it again!!!
Super dark. There's a mystery. It has a creepy, ominous aura, Yakuza gangsters, young vulnerable women working as bar hostesses...Set in 1990s Tokyo. Also a couple of somewhat supernatural elements. You might bite off all your fingernails as you read it. Took me a while to get into it but once I did, I couldn't put it down. I reviewed it on Goodreads.
My all time favorite I have dressed up as is Pippi Longstocking. Another favorite costume was as Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I would LOVE to dress up someday as Wednesday Addams.
Pippi Longstocking! Such a fun one! Did you put wires in your pigtails?! TBH, I very seriously considered getting striped tights to wear this month. I thought purple and black would be fun and Halloween-y. And yes to Wednesday Addams! —Mel
Madeline. Definitely Madeline. I want to wear the yellow hat with ribbon streamers and the navy wool coat. And I promise to show everyone my appendix scar.
I would love to dress as Mirabel dressed as Max from The Starless Sea. The most fun costume I’ve done before was one of a pair of Yip Yip aliens from Sesame Street
I've done cosplay as Kiki (Kiki's Delivery Service) and Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls), but my all-time favorite secret wish Halloween costume is to be Madame Hooch from the Harry Potter series. :)
I once went as the PAPER BAG PRINCESS from the children's book by Robert Munsch. A great heroine of children's literature. I just carefully cut a brown paper yard waste bag on a fold, turned it inside out to the side that didn't have the supplier's logo, taped it back up and made a Bristol board crown. Couldn't sit down but worth it!
I love your Poe and Raven costumes. I would probably go as Mary Poppins. My love for carpet bags began when I first saw the movie as a kid. And I love her umbrella and hat.
Oh, man. Mary Poppins is a really good one! The carpet bag is pretty spectacular, isn't it? And the parrot head umbrella?! And the Victorian ankle boots! Yes, please. —Mel
That would have to be Edith Wharton! The first classical female author I noticed!
Oooh, good one.

This is a fantastic triumvirate.
I love Coraline...that is a good one!
I've dressed up Professor Trelawney from Harry Potter. I think I would like to be Veronica Speedwell or Flo from the Lady Hardcastle series.

Lucy Westenra from Dracula, in her undead form of course. I love your Poe/Raven costumes!
Undead 'of course' LOVE IT

I love that you chose a scary one! YES! I don't know that book, but now I'm very curious.

Two great characters! Pippi was another childhood favorite. She was so much fun.

Yes, I definitely did put wires in my pigtail braids! AND I carried a stuffed monkey to stand in for Mr. Nilsson. It was great fun to put together!
So awesome!
Either Mina Murray from Dracula or Anne Catherick from The Woman in White.
Ooooh, Anne Catherick is a deep cut, and I'm into it. Putting together an ethereal white costume would be so much fun! —Mel
Madeline. Definitely Madeline. I want to wear the yellow hat with ribbon streamers and the navy wool coat. And I promise to show everyone my appendix scar.
Oh, you definitely need to to that. It would be so cute! —Mel
Trillian from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Specifically the baby blue jumpsuit Zooey Deschanel version.
I had to google Zooey's outfit, and I LOVE the wide cuffs on the pants. So cute! —Mel
I would dress up as either Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice or Virginia Woolf. I realize that is quite a contrast. 🎃
Whoa, that is a broad spectrum, and I love it. —Mel
I am dressing up this year to attend an adult halloween party! I'm going as Dr. Ellie Sattler from Jurassic Park
Oh, that's such a great idea! I hope you have a fantastic time and don't have to deal with a sick Triceratops! —Mel

That is a great story-that paper bag princess has spunk.
I wasn't familiar with Paper Bag Princess... what a cute idea! Your costume was so clever. —Mel
I love your Poe and Raven costumes. I would probably go as Mary Poppins. My love for carpet bags began when I first saw the movie as a kid. And I love her umbrella and hat.
Yes! I’ve always wanted that umbrella and her coat
Loved the whole look!
I used to be able to wear boots like that!
