Tuesday Tea: What do you think about NPR's 'Books We Love'?
Let's talk turkey... er, books
We la-la-love NPR’s annual ‘Books We Love’ project.
This year, they collected 350 book recommendations from reporters, editors, producers, hosts, and other book-lovers across all genres. The best part is that in addition to filtering by genre, you can sort their list by other fun criteria: the dark side, rather long, rather short, funny stuff, for art lovers, family matters, and — our favorite — tales from around the world.
The 2024 collection includes some of our best reads of the year, like Piglet by Lottie Hazell (podcast review), Table for Two by Amor Towles (podcast review), The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley, The God of the Woods by Liz Moore, Sociopath by Patric Gagne, and How It All Ends by Emma Hunsinger1.
Plus, there are dozens of titles on NPR’s list that we’ve added to our TBRs2.
Spill the tea: Have you read any of the books on NPR’s list? Are you adding any of their picks to your TBR?
I just finished reading Emma Hunsinger’s graphic novel How It All Ends, and it’s one of the best things I read all year. —Dave
I intend to spend all day Friday with Hard by a Great Forest. — Mel
Mel and Dave, I wasn't even aware of this list until seeing your post so thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I have not read any books on this year's list. This doesn't surprise me as I rarely read books in the year they are released. I did find a bunch to add to my TBR though so that is nice.
Interesting list! A lot of overlap with the NYT 100 list but also some divergence. I've read five books from this list: James, Clear, The Hunter, Bear, and Somewhere Beyond the Sea. James and The Hunter were my favorites. I've been trying to get around to The Familiar and hope to read it in 2025.
